Mannix, Daniel (1864–1963), Roman Catholic archbishop of Melbourne, was born on 4 March 1864 at the substantial family farm, Deerpark, near Charleville (Rathluirc), co. Cork, Ireland, first child of Timothy Mannix (1826–1910) and his wife, Ellen Cagney (1826–1925). The family was comparatively affluent and of the small farmer middle class.
