Oliver, Kathlyn (1884–1953), feminist, founder of a trade union for domestic servants, and proponent of the right to love other women, was born on 31 March 1884 (1939 Register), probably in London (census returns, 1911), although no birth certificate has been found and her parents have not been identified. According to her own account, her father ‘occupied a good position in the civil service’, but she received very little formal education, so that when her father died and she had to earn her own living, domestic service was her only option (...
