Weizmann, Chaim (1874–1952), Zionist leader and president of Israel, was born at Motol, near Pinsk, Belorussia, in the Jewish pale of settlement, the third child of Ozer Weizmann (1850?–1911) and his wife, Rachel-Leah Tchemerinsky (1852?–1939). He was one of fifteen children, twelve of whom (seven boys and five girls) survived to adulthood. Although the exact date of his birth is not known, it most probably took place on 27 November 1874. ...
