Stanford, Sir Charles Villiers (1852–1924), composer, was born on 30 September 1852 at 2 Herbert Street, Dublin, the only child of John James Stanford, a distinguished lawyer, and his second wife, Mary, the daughter of William Henn of Dublin, master in chancery.
