Sankey, John, Viscount Sankey (1866–1948), lord chancellor, was born in Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, on 26 October 1866, the son of Thomas Sankey, a grocer specializing in dry goods, and his second wife, Catalina, daughter of James Dewsbury, clerk, of Manchester.
