Mendelsohn, Eric (1887–1953), architect, was born in Allenstein, East Prussia, on 21 March 1887, of German-Jewish parents; he was the fifth of the six children of David Mendelsohn, who kept a store in the town, and his wife, Emma Jaruslawsky. Among the important influences of his childhood was his mother's enthusiasm for music (she was a gifted musician) and her love of plants and flowers. ...
