Bayly, William (bap. 1738, d. 1810), astronomer, was born at Bishops Cannings, near Devizes, Wiltshire, the son of a small farmer. He was probably the child whose parents were John and Elizabeth Baily (not Bayly), recorded as being baptized in Bishops Cannings on 8 October 1738.
