Jones, John (c. 1755–1796), engraver, was judged by Dodd to be of 'distinctive merit' (Dodd's history, fol. 162). Nothing is known of his parentage or his training and although the Dictionary of National Biography and other authorities speculated that he might have been born about 1745, the date of his earliest work suggests a birth date a decade later.
