Islip, John (1464–1532), abbot of Westminster, was born on 10 June 1464, almost certainly at Islip, Oxfordshire, a manor belonging to Westminster Abbey. An isolated but trustworthy source implies that he took the name Patience on becoming a monk, but following an older convention he was normally known by his place of origin.
