Hampden, John (1595–1643), politician, was born about June 1595, the eldest son and heir of William Hampden (1570–1597) of Great Hampden, Buckinghamshire, and his wife, Elizabeth (d. 1664), daughter of Sir Henry Cromwell alias Williams of Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdonshire.
