Hardy [née Nathan], Barbara Gladys (1924–2016), literary critic and poet, was born on 27 June 1924 at 7 Hall Terrace, Swansea, the daughter of Maurice Nathan (1892/3–1962), tobacconist, and his wife, Gladys Emily Ann, née Abraham (1895–1992).
