The ounders of the Victoria League (act. 1901–1914) created the only predominantly female imperial propaganda society in Edwardian Britain. Run by a group of distinguished women, it attracted the active support of many well-known male imperialists while maintaining an overwhelmingly female membership, leadership, and image. As such, it specialized in transforming areas of work that were acknowledged as belonging to women’s ‘separate sphere’ into innovative methods of imperial propaganda, aiming both to ensure the continuing loyalty of the ‘white dominions’ to the empire and to develop imperial sentiment at home....
