Parry, Sir David Hughes (1893–1973), jurist and university administrator, was born on 3 January 1893 at Llanaelhaearn, Caernarvonshire, the eldest of three sons and of four children of John Parry JP, a farmer, and his wife, Anne Hughes, great-great-niece of Griffith Davies, the actuary. Childhood on a hill farm from which a living could be wrested only by unremitting labour left an indelible mark on him.
