Perkins, John [nicknamed Jack Punch] (c. 1745–1812), naval officer and spy, was born in Jamaica. Nothing certain is known of his origin, but he is described as a 'mulatto', the child of a white father and a black mother, and if so it is highly probable that his mother was a slave.
