Maclean, John (1879–1923), revolutionary socialist, was born in Pollokshaws, Glasgow, on 14 August 1879, the sixth child of Daniel Maclean, a potter, and his wife, Annie McPhee, a weaver, who were members of the strictly sabbatarian Original Secessionist church.
