Jones, Robert Thomas (1874–1940), trade unionist, was born on 14 October 1874 in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Merioneth, the son of David Jones, a quarryman, and his wife, Ellen Parry. His formal education was largely confined to the elementary school at Ffestiniog, but the chapel Sunday school also contributed to his early education and he remained a staunch advocate of the Sunday school and of temperance.
