Morris, Edward (bap. 1633, d. 1689), drover and Welsh-language poet, was born at Perthillwydion, Cerrigydrudion, Denbighshire, and baptized on 30 July 1633, the elder son of Morris ap Hugh (bap. 1601) and his wife, Lowri (d. 1669/70); in addition to a younger boy there were five sisters. Nothing is known of his education, and the presumption of a classical education, based on the extensive classical references in his poetry, overlooks the fact that translations were available in English printed sources.
