Neilson, Walter Montgomerie (1819–1889), railway locomotive manufacturer, was born in Cowcaddens, Glasgow, on 28 November 1819, the eldest son of James Beaumont Neilson (1792–1865), engineer and inventor, and his first wife, Barbara Montgomerie (1796–1843).
