Cubbon, William (1865–1955), antiquary and museum curator, was born at Orrestal, Rushen, Isle of Man, on 28 May 1865, the son of James Cubbon, fishing boat skipper, and his wife, Margaret Powell. He was educated at the boys' school, Rushen, and began work in the printing trade in 1880 as an apprentice compositor.
