Whaley, John (bap. 1710, d. 1745), poet and tutor to Horace Walpole, was baptized at St Andrews, Norwich, on 4 April 1710, the son of Thomas Whalley, a tradesman, and his wife, Mary. His father died when he was young, leaving him in the care of his mother; nothing more is known of his parents. ...
