Traske, John (c. 1585–1636), Church of England clergyman and separatist minister, was born in Somerset, the son of unidentified parents described only as 'godly'. He began his career as a schoolmaster in his home county. Although he received no university training, Traske managed to acquire a level of scriptural and theological fluency sufficient to convince diocesan authorities that he was fit for ordination, which came in 1611.
