Cozens, Alexander (1717–1786), landscape painter, was born in Russia, the eldest of six children of Richard Cozens (1674–1735), the English chief shipbuilder to Peter the Great, and his wife, Mary, the daughter of Robert Davenport, also a shipbuilder in the tsar's employ.
