Fozard, John William (1928–1996), aeronautical engineer, was born at 21 Holme Street, Millbridge, Liversedge, Yorkshire, on 16 January 1928, the son of John (Jack) Fozard (1880–1955) and his wife, Eleanor, née Paulkitt (1895–1948). His father had been an underground face worker in coal mines, and a branch secretary of the miners' union, before working as a carter and haulier; on leaving school his mother had worked in woollen mills, where she had been a union organizer and ...
