Archdall, Mervyn (1723–1791), antiquary, was born in Dublin on 22 April 1723, the son of William Archdall, who was descended from a co. Fermanagh ascendancy family. He entered Trinity College, Dublin, in 1739 and, according to A. J. Webb, 'passed through the University with credit, and imbibed a taste for antiquities and literary research, and for collecting coins, medals and seals' (...
