Wintringham, Thomas Henry [Tom] (1898–1949), socialist activist and military theorist, was born on 15 May 1898 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, the third child of John Fildes Wintringham (1866–1940), a solicitor, and his wife, Eliza Mapson Workman (1868–1937).
