Crosby, Theo (1925–1994), designer and architect, was born on 3 April 1925 in Mafeking, South Africa, the only child of Nicholas Johannes Crosby (d. 1938), compound engineer for a gold mine, and his wife, Nicholas Johannes Goosen (a name chosen before birth for the boy it was hoped she would be).
