Jones, Daniel (1881–1967), phonetician, was born on 12 September 1881 at 12 Norfolk Crescent, near Marble Arch in central London, the son of a leading London barrister, also named Daniel Jones (1834–1915), and his second wife, Viola Carte (1848–1925).
