Turner, William Ernest Stephen (1881–1963), chemist and glass technologist, was born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire on 22 September 1881, the eldest son and second of the seven children of William George Turner and his wife, Emma Blanche Gardner, daughter of a London tradesman.
