Brenton, Edward Pelham (1774–1839), naval officer and naval historian, the second son of Rear-Admiral Jahleel Brenton (1729–1802) and his wife, Henrietta, daughter of Joseph Cowley of Wolverhampton, and younger brother of Vice-Admiral Sir Jahleel Brenton, was born in Rhode Island on 20 July 1774.
