Ebsworth, Joseph Woodfall (1824–1908), literary editor and artist, was born on 2 September 1824 at 3 Gray's Walk, Lambeth, London, the younger son (of thirteen children) of Joseph Ebsworth (1788–1868), playwright and musician, and his wife, Mary Emma Ebsworth, née Fairbrother (1794–1881), also a playwright.
