Rosen, Friedrich August (1805–1837), Sanskritist, son of Friedrich Ballhorn Rosen, a legal writer, was born at Hanover on 2 September 1805. His early education was conducted at the Göttingen Gymnasium, and in 1822 he entered the University of Leipzig, where he abandoned law in favour of oriental studies.
