Bicknell, Herman (1830–1875), orientalist and traveller, was born at Herne Hill, Surrey, on 2 April 1830, the third son of Elhanan Bicknell (1788–1861) and his third wife, Lucinda Sarah (1801–1850), who was the sister of Hablot Knight Browne (‘Phiz’).
