Aikin, Edmund (1780–1820), architect, was born on 2 October 1780 at Warrington, Lancashire, the youngest son of John Aikin (1747–1822), physician and author, and his wife, Martha, née Jennings (c.1746–1830). His two brothers, Charles Rochemont Aikin and Arthur Aikin, achieved prominence in the fields of surgery and natural science respectively.
