Hayes, Sir John Macnamara, first baronet (1750?–1809), military physician, was born in Limerick, the son of John Hayes and Margaret, daughter and coheir of Sheedy Macnamara of Ballyally, co. Clare. Nothing further is known about his early life. Hayes served as a surgeon during the American War of Independence, between 1775 and 1783.
