Hall, Robert (1754–1827), cotton manufacturer and bleacher, was born on 25 February 1754, in Nottingham, the third son of Robert Hall (1706–1781), mercer, bleacher, and thread merchant. His father being already a prosperous merchant and manufacturer, young Robert enjoyed a liberal education. The principal influence on his life was the Wesleyan Methodism that he espoused from the age of seventeen, which encouraged a love of order and punctuality in all his affairs. ...
