Montefiore, Leonard Nathaniel Goldsmid- (1889–1961), scholar and Jewish communal leader, was born at 12 Portman Square, London, on 2 June 1889, the only child of Claude Joseph Goldsmid-Montefiore (1858–1938) and his wife, Thérèse Alice, née Schorstein (1864–1889). His father, descended from leading Anglo-Jewish families, was a noted scholar, philanthropist, Jewish communal leader, and founder of Liberal Judaism. ...
