 William Robertson (1721-1793)

This year marks the tercentenary of the birth of the historian, Sir William Robertson, principal of Edinburgh University and a leading figure in Enlightenment Scotland. He was the only major British historian of the period to attempt something like a global history, encompassing Scotland, continental Europe, colonial America, and India.
