Atkinson, Thomas Witlam (1799–1861), architect and artist, was born on 6 March 1799 at Cawthorne, Yorkshire, the son of William Atkinson, head mason to the Spencer-Stanhope family of Cannon Hall, near Barnsley, and his wife, Martha, housemaid to the same family.
