Todd, Barbara Euphan (1897–1976), writer, was born at the vicarage, Arksey, near Doncaster, Yorkshire, on 9 January 1897, the daughter of Thomas Todd, vicar of Arksey, and his wife, Alice Maud Mary, née Bentham. Educated at St Catherine's School, Bramley, Guildford, Surrey, she left school in 1914, and during the First World War worked on the land and served as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse.
