Pontecorvo, Guido (1907–1999), geneticist, was born on 29 November 1907 in Pisa, Italy, the eldest child in the family of seven sons and one daughter of Massimo Pontecorvo (1877–1958), businessman, and his wife, Maria Maroni (1883–1975).
