Newbold, (John Turner) Walton (1888–1943), journalist and politician, was born on 8 May 1888 at Culcheth, Leigh, Lancashire, the only child of Thomas Robinson Newbold (c.1846–1926), corn merchant, and his wife, Elizabeth Turner.
