Knights, Lionel Charles (1906–1997), literary scholar, was born on 15 May 1906 at Grantham, Lincolnshire, the first child of Charles Edwin Knights (1882–1972), technical draftsman and salesman, and his wife, Lois, née Kenney (d. 1947).
