Katz, Sir Bernard (1911–2003), experimental physiologist, was born on 26 March 1911 in Leipzig, Germany, the only child of Max N. Katz, fur trader, and his wife, Eugenie, née Rabinowitz. Until about 1958 he used the spelling Bernhard.
