Catesby, Mark (1683–1749), naturalist, was born, probably at Castle Hedingham, Essex, on 24 March 1683, the son of John Catesby (c.1642–1705), town clerk of Sudbury, Suffolk, and his wife, Elizabeth Jekyll (b. 1652).
