Carpenter, Lant (1780–1840), Unitarian minister and schoolmaster, was born at Kidderminster on 2 September 1780, the third son of George Carpenter (1748/9–1839), carpet manufacturer, and his wife, Mary Hooke (1751/2–1835); Lant was the maiden name of George Carpenter's mother.
