Butler, Sir Edward Gerald (1770–1824), army officer, entered the army by purchasing a cornetcy in the 15th light dragoons in 1792. He was at once sent to Flanders on the outbreak of the war in 1793, and on 24 April 1794 was one of the officers of the two companies of his regiment which helped to save the life of the Austrian emperor. ...
