Emett, (Frederick) Rowland (1906–1990), cartoonist and inventor of whimsical creations, was born on 22 October 1906 at Eskdale, Natal Road, New Southgate, London, the elder son (there were no daughters) of Arthur Emett, businessman, and his wife, Alice, née Veale.
