Ward, Arthur Henry [Arthur Sarsfield Ward; pseud. Sax Rohmer] (1883–1959), writer, was born in Ladywood, Birmingham, on 15 February 1883, the only child of Irish immigrant parents, a clerk, William Ward (1847×51–1932), and Margaret Mary, née Furey (1849×52–1901).
