Brownrigg, Ralph (1592–1659), bishop of Exeter, was the son of a merchant of Ipswich, who died during his infancy. He was educated at Ipswich grammar school and in 1606 went to Pembroke College, Cambridge, as a scholar of the college. In 1611 he graduated BA and was elected a fellow, sooner than the college statutes allowed. He proceeded MA in 1614.
