Sherek, (Jules) Henry (1900–1967), theatre manager, was born at 2 Guilford Street, London, on 23 April 1900, the younger son of Bernard Scherek, merchant, and his wife, Margarette Jacoby. His schooling was scrappy and unconventional because his father, who after retiring from business in middle life had become an international theatrical agent, had only one strongly held principle about education: the need for fluency in foreign languages.
